For the popular routes to the Balearic or Canary Islands we factor in ferry connections or sea freight, which slightly increases the cost and transit time compared with the mainland. When importing wine, spirits or larger electrical appliances, EU allowance limits apply, which we take into account when planning your transport.

Moves to the Spanish mainland are handled by road transport in 3–5 days. For the Balearics (Mallorca, Ibiza) and Canaries (Tenerife, Gran Canaria) we use sea freight from Barcelona or Valencia. As an EU country, customs clearance is straightforward – even so, we advise you on registration requirements such as the NIE number and Empadronamiento, so your start in Spain runs smoothly.

FAQ: Relocation to Spain
How long does a move to Spain take?
By road transport to the mainland (Barcelona, Madrid, Costa del Sol), transport takes 3–5 days. For the Balearics, add 2–3 days of sea freight, for the Canaries around 5–7 days. From packing to setup, plan for around 1–2 weeks in total.
What does a move to Spain cost?
For a three-room apartment to the Spanish mainland, expect around EUR 3,000–5,500; to Mallorca around EUR 4,000–7,000. The price depends on volume, destination and transport route.
Do I need a customs declaration for a move to Spain?
As an EU citizen you do not need a customs declaration for household goods. However, you must register with your local municipality within 3 months (Empadronamiento) and apply for an NIE number. We advise you on all the formalities.
