A move to China requires careful customs planning: the Chinese authorities demand a detailed packing list in English and Chinese, a valid work or residence permit (Z visa or residence permit) and the passport with entry stamp, and household goods must generally be imported within six months of arrival. Certain items such as alcohol, media, drones or more than one unit of the same appliance are subject to strict import restrictions and may be seized. Because the cost of a move to China depends heavily on the chosen destination port – such as Shanghai, Ningbo or Shenzhen – and the subsequent domestic clearance, we plan sea and air freight so that transit time and budget fit together optimally.

How long does a move to China take?
By sea freight, 6–9 weeks of transit time. Including packing and customs clearance, plan for 10–14 weeks. Customs clearance in China can take longer than in other countries.
What does a move to China cost?
For a three-room apartment, costs are around EUR 8,000–11,500 by sea freight. The more complex customs clearance increases the effort compared with more straightforward destinations.
Which items are prohibited or restricted in China?
China prohibits politically sensitive literature, drones, certain medications, walkie-talkies and material regarded as offensive, among others. Our team advises you in detail before the move.
